Wisbech are the comeback kings in ten-goal home thriller against Ely City

Wisbech hockey players celebrated their East Men's Division 2 North West title success by scoring a glut of goals in their final home game of the season.

But they were forced to claim victory the hard way as they came from 4-1 down to beat Ely City 6-4 in a dramatic game at Harecroft Road.

Sam Markillie was on target in the first half as the home side trailed 3-1 at the break.

There looked no way back when Ely added a fourth but Wisbech had other ideas as Tom Jupp scored a hat-trick and Danny Haynes and Jason Esser also found the back of the net to seal a remarkable 6-4 win.

The promotion party continues with a final game away at rivals March on Saturday.

The men's 2nds kept their promotion hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over St Ives 3rds, despite being reduced to ten men for a red card.

Matt Boyall and Matt Pooley scored the all-important goals and the team now knows that a single point at Cambs South 3rds on Saturday will confirm them as league champions.

The men's 3rds suffered a 3-1 reverse at home to Ely 2nds.

A strike from Jack Woollard was deflected and plucked out of the air by Oli Melton to give Wisbech the lead.

Ely fought back to take the points, despite the best efforts of captain's man-of-the-match Rob McGregor.

The men's 4ths continued their recent good form with a 5-1 success over Ely.

Two goals from Brandon Ruff put Wisbech in control before Jordan Brown made it 3-0 just before half-time.

Steve Rodgers added a fourth from a short corner and there was still time for man-of-the-match Mike Lawrence to provide his second assist of the afternoon for Ruff to complete his treble.

Theladies 3rds triumphed 2-0 at Ely 3rds in their penultimate game of the campaign.

Goals were scored by Nancy Davies and Izzy Herring while Lisa Rivers picked up the player-of-the-match award.

The ladies 4ths were beaten 2-0 at home by Cams Souths 6ths.

Isla Jeakings-Ayres produced some tenacious play down the flank while Zoe Parsons bravely recovered from taking a ball in the throat.

This week the title of Player-of-the-Match was shared between Helen Pentelow, Tina Forder and Parsons.
