Driver fights off 3 men who tried to carjack luxury SUV at N.J. supermarket

Edison police are looking for the three people accused of trying to carjack an SUV at a business on Oak Tree Road on Friday, March 15, 2024.

A driver fought off three men who tried to carjack his luxury SUV at a grocery store in Edison on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

When the driver parked at Patel Brothers grocery store and opened the door to exit his car, three men in masks confronted him, Edison police said.

The men tried to pull him out of the vehicle and start the SUV, but the victim broke free and ran into the store to call police, Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.

The driver had the key fob in his pocket, so the would-be carjackers were unable to steal the vehicle and ran east on Oak Tree Road shortly before 5 p.m., the chief said.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call the Edison police department detective bureau at 732-248-7543.
