'Will sign new contract': Club official now says £80m player is staying after links with Chelsea

There has been a lot of talk about Chelsea signing a new striker throughout the season.

Nicolas Jackson has not fared too badly, especially of late, but he is the only recognised centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad at the moment.

Now one No.9 who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Lautaro Martinez, who is having another incredible campaign at Inter Milan.

This term, the 26-year-old has scored 23 goals in 26 Serie A appearances.

During the January transfer window, it was claimed that Inter would have considered a bid of £80m minimum for Martinez, but he now looks set to sign a new contract.

Lautaro Martinez close to new deal despite Chelsea links

According to Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta, Martinez will put pen to paper on a fresh contract and remain at the San Siro.

As relayed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Marotta said: “We will get Lautaro Martinez’s new deal done by the end of the season for sure.

“The relationship with him and his agent is fantastic and we only see one way: Lautaro will sign [a] new contract here at Inter.”

Lautaro Martinez vs Victor Osimhen

Martinez and Victor Osimhen are probably the two top strikers in Serie A, while both players have been linked to Chelsea.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently claimed that the Blues will be in a position to sign Osimhen in the summer.

Osimhen has not done as well as Martinez this season, scoring 12 goals fewer than the Argentine in Serie A.

However, the Nigerian was a monster last term, netting 26 times to help Napoli win the title.

If you are a Chelsea supporter, you are probably taking either this summer. Again, Jackson has done decent, grabbing an assist against Leicester City yesterday and two goals in games versus Newcastle United and Brentford prior to that.

However, Jackson is still a 22-year-old and the only natural striker in the Blues’ senior squad right now.
