'I think': Graeme Souness says who he believes is the better team - Tottenham or Man United

Graeme Souness has now been discussing who he believes to be a better team between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Right now, Erik ten Hag’s Man United side sit sixth in the Premier League, one place behind Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a frustrating victory at Fulham on Saturday when they were completely played off the park in truth.

Spurs failed to make the most of their excellent win at Villa, and perhaps opened the door for Man United to challenge for fifth position.

That being said Graeme Souness has recently been speaking pretty negatively about United on the ‘Simon & Souness’ podcast.

The pundit refuted some recent comments made by Erik ten Hag, and said United were light years behind some of their rivals now.

And when considering how far United have fallen of late, Souness did think they were a weaker team than Tottenham, saying the table doesn’t lie.

Spurs have actually already faced United on two occasions this season, winning 2-0 at home and then drawing 2-2 away in January.

And Souness thought they have proved themselves as that better side.

Graeme Souness says Tottenham are much better team than Manchester United

Souness didn’t think United were simply suffering because of injuries to Lisandro Martinez for example, and said the league table was an accurate reflection.

He initially asked: “If they had kept everyone fit all the time, how much better would they be?

“Not the number he [Erik ten Hag] is quoting. I think Man United right now are a country mile behind their city rivals, Liverpool and Arsenal.

“And I would suggest they are behind Tottenham as well, and Vill, and the table shows that they are where they should be.”

And although Tottenham and Manchester United haven’t necessarily been in hot competition this year, perhaps the likes of Souness may soon be discussing the duo in the race for fifth.

It shouldn’t be forgotten how strong Spurs were against Villa, but when you consider Postecoglou’s side will still face Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, nothing is decided yet.

Perhaps the return of Richarlison to full fitness will be a big boost after the break given the team does look better balanced when he is involved.

But Tottenham will need a quick reaction, and they certainly won’t want to open the door for United in the race for next season’s Champions League.

That being said, Jeff Stelling has been calling for a football rule change after something that happened this weekend.
