Cambridge City battle back on two occasions to claim a point from trip to Coventry Sphinx

Cambridge City showed good powers of recovery to record a 2-2 draw from Saturday’s trip to Coventry Sphinx.

The visiting Lilywhites twice fell behind at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena, but on both occasions they responded positively to claim a point that has moved them up a place to 15th in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Matthew Shipman’s fifth-minute penalty gave the hosts the early initiative, only for City to hit back with a goal of the season contender from Jake Battersby in the 18th minute.

The left-back took aim around 30 yards from goal and saw his effort fly in via the inside the of the post.

Sphinx restored their lead in the 55th minute, yet that lasted for just six minutes thanks to City centre-back Ed Tassell, who scored his side’s second equaliser of the afternoon.

Robbie Nightingale’s side, who have seven games remaining this term, will take a break from action this coming weekend before returning on Tuesday (26 March) at bottom-of-the-table AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
