Ben White has pleasantly surprised many of the staff at Arsenal this season as the defender grows into more of a leader within the squad.
What Ben White has managed to achieve at Arsenal has been remarkable. The Gunners decided to spend £50 million on the defender after just one Premier League season.
That appeared to be a real gamble at the time. However, the 26-year-old has been a stalwart of the side since, whether he is playing at centre-back or right-back.
White recently signed a new contract. During the negotiations over fresh terms, an analytics company found that White would suit the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City.

According to a report from The Athletic, White has grown into being one of the leaders within the squad. And staff at London Colney were left pleasantly surprised when White ‘laid down the law’ to some of the younger players in pre-season.
That would suggest that the defender made clear what is expected of them. Obviously, the standards at Arsenal have risen sharply again over the last couple of years. And it does not hurt to outline to those hoping to catch Mikel Arteta’s eye where the bar sits.
Gunners look to build someone which continues to grow
Arsenal want to build something which lasts beyond the current star players. The good news is that so many within the current squad have the potential to improve further. So there is a feeling that they have not reached their ceiling.
Having a number of leaders is only going to help the club demand more and more. And clearly, White is one of those not afraid to push those around him.
