'Fantastic' Rohl fave & Delgado: 3 Sheffield Wednesday stars who could leave if relegated - opinion

Here are three stars who will surely leave Sheffield Wednesday if they are relegated.

Sheffield Wednesday are likely to offload a long list of players this summer, and that could happen whether they are relegated or not.

The Owls have eleven players out of contract at the end of the season, while another seven could depart at the end of their loan spells.

There is then plenty of dead wood and players who are raking in significantly more than they are worth, but relegation to the League One could also mean they are forced to part ways with those they don’t necessarily want to say goodbye to.

Reports have already claimed that Barry Bannan will extend his stay at Hillsborough even if they do drop down to the third tier, but with rumours circling regarding their other key men, Danny Rohl and supporters will be concerned about their squad if they can’t avoid the relegation zone in a couple of months’ time.

Here are three players who could leave Sheffield Wednesday if they are relegated…

Juan Delgado

Juan Delgado only joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer, but an injury during the October international break has left him on the sidelines ever-since.

The Chilean wasn’t registered for their 25-man squad last month as it was expected he could miss the rest of the campaign with his hip problem, before entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Danny Rohl has already admitted that Delgado may never ‘play for Wednesday again’, and that could suggest that he is offloaded permanently only a year after joining from Pacos Ferreira.

Josh Windass

It would be a huge shame, but it would also be a surprise if Josh Windass was willing to play League One football again.

The midfielder was one of Sheffield Wednesday’s best players as they were promoted last season and he has been particularly important when he hasn’t been injured this time round.

Windass has been linked with a move to MLS recently, while he could also wait out another Championship move instead of signing a new contract with the Owls.

Marvin Johnson

Marvin Johnson has been ‘fantastic’ for Sheffield Wednesday and has clearly been a real favourite of Rohl’s, making 19 starts since the German brought him back into the fold.

It’s unclear how long his contract extension was last summer, so he could potentially leave for free, but it would also be a surprise if he didn’t push for a move away if the club are relegated anyway.

Johnson was subject to a £1 million bid from Ipswich Town in January and could be eager to leave if the Tractor Boys make a second approach this summer.
