Casemiro identifies one Man Utd star who is ‘very important’ for team, says ‘all clubs need’ a player like him

Casemiro has insisted that an underrated Manchester United teammate is “very important” and the type of player that “all clubs need” in a massive compliment.

The 32-year-old Manchester United midfielder has seen his influence at Old Trafford wane in the current Premier League season amid dealing with injuries and form.

Casemiro returned to training for the Red Devils back in January after he suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle last November.

The former Real Madrid star, who was praised for his debut season at Old Trafford, has only managed 15 Premier League appearances in the current campaign.

However, Casemiro has remained a key figure for United manager Erik ten Hag, despite his lack of consistency for the Red Devils in the 2023-24 season.

Erik ten Hag has hailed the influence of the Brazilian midfielder in his United first team, specifically in supporting the development of teenager Kobbie Mainoo.

Despite his own praise for Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro has spotlighted another United star who “always wants more” and “rallies the team.”

Casemiro talks ‘very important’ Man Utd star

Speaking to Inside United (via Manchester United’s official website), Casemiro praised Scott McTominay for both his “strength” and his “threat” in attack.

Scott McTominay has become a divisive player among United fans, despite his impressive goalscoring output for Erik ten Hag’s men this season.

The 27-year-old Scottish midfielder has scored seven times in 25 Premier League appearances, including a stunning injury-time brace against Brentford last October.

However, McTominay has had to fight for his place in the starting XI under United boss Ten Hag, who prefers a partnership between Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro.

Casemiro has now paid tribute to the Scotland international and boldly claimed that McTominay is the type of player that all clubs need in their first teams.

“[Scott McTominay is] a player who offers strength and gets in the box, and is an important goal threat,” he said.

Casemiro added: “I think Scott is the type of player all clubs need; he always wants more and rallies the team.

“You want players who elevate the team and train well. Players like Scott are very important.”

Casemiro talks Mainoo development

Casemiro also raved about midfield partner Mainoo and dropped high praise on him recently, backing the United star to be a top talent at Old Trafford for over a decade.

Mainoo has had a breakthrough season at United under Ten Hag and the 18-year-old midfielder is tipped to have a bright future ahead of him in football.

However, Casemiro has warned that “too much pressure” can’t be placed on United star Mainoo and important stages in his development must not be skipped.

“I think it’s really important that we don’t put too much pressure on an 18-year-old player,” he told Inside United.

“Let things happen naturally. We can’t skip stages, we have to go step-by-step with Kobbie.”
