Rio Ferdinand perfectly sums up how Man Utd fans feel in one word, 'salty' Liverpool legend's reaction says it all

A ‘salty’ Jamie Carragher brutally hit back at Rio Ferdinand after the Manchester United legend’s reaction to the Red Devils’ FA Cup win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Manchester United punched their ticket to the FA Cup semi-finals after an emphatic 4-3 win over Premier League rivals Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Amad Diallo came off the bench and produced a sublime finish in the second half of extra time to ensure United’s place in the next stage of the competition.

Erik ten Hag’s men will now be heading to Wembley next month for the semi-final tie against Coventry City, who caused a stunning 3-2 upset against Wolves.

United took the lead in the first half through Scott McTominay, only for Liverpool to take a 2-1 lead into half-time thanks to Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.

Despite the Red Devils’ superb first-half showing, United were forced to rally back and Antony’s finish late in the second half forced the FA Cup tie to extra time.

Liverpool restored their advantage in the first half of extra time through Harvey Elliott, while Marcus Rashford stepped up in the second half and pulled United level.

However, Amad Diallo’s heroics in the dying stages of the match sealed Liverpool’s exit from the competition and kept Erik ten Hag’s hopes of silverware alive.

Carragher and Ferdinand react to Man Utd win

Manchester United legends were thrilled with the result against Liverpool, including Paul Scholes sharing his immediate reaction to the thrilling FA Cup tie.

Rio Ferdinand was among the aforementioned United legends to react, with the TNT Sports pundit excited by the Red Devils securing their place at Wembley.

The 45-year-old former United defender shared a photo of Marcus Rashford celebrating alongside a photo from his own playing days at the Red Devils.

“Wembley!” Ferdinand wrote for the caption, adding an emoji alongside his post.

Jamie Carragher took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and told Ferdinand to “relax” after United’s win against Liverpool.

The 46-year-old Liverpool legend claimed that Manchester City would beat United in a potential repeat of last season’s FA Cup final.

“Relax,” Carragher wrote, before adding: “Man City will beat you comfortably in the final [and] ETH [Erik ten Hag] will still be in charge next season.

“It’s not the win you think it is!!”

Ten Hag on Man Utd vs Coventry City

Ten Hag has faced criticism this season amid an underwhelming campaign at times, with the FA Cup remaining as United’s last real chance of winning major silverware.

The Dutchman fell short of the FA Cup trophy last season after Manchester City secured a 2-1 win at Wembley, with Pep Guardiola’s men completing a treble.

Speaking after the Liverpool clash, Ten Hag admitted that United face a “difficult” match against Coventry City ahead of securing a place in the FA Cup final again.

“Semi-final, if you want to go to the final, you have to win it,” he said on ITV, as per the Coventry Telegraph.

“But we have to play our best.

“As you have seen yesterday about Coventry, how they did that for a very good team. Very good spirit, very good mentality.

“It will be a difficult game, but we want to go into the final, so we have to prepare our best and play at our best.”
