'Hope this comes out the right way': Pundit says what Spurs man's done at times this term's been 'ridiculous'

Micky Gray has hit out at Ange Postecoglou following Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Fulham at the weekend, claiming that Spurs’ style of play is beyond belief at times.

The best and worst of Tottenham has been on show in the last two games. They made a real statement with their second-half performance at Aston Villa as they won 4-0.

However, Spurs were brought back down to earth in the race for the top-four. They were beaten 3-0 at Fulham on Saturday. It was an incredibly painful reminder that Tottenham remain a work in progress.

Ange Postecoglou criticised after Tottenham defeat

Ange Postecoglou has won a lot of plaudits since coming to the Premier League. Spurs led the way in the opening weeks of the campaign. And they have played some of the best football in the division.

However, the shine has come off their campaign somewhat over the last few months. Much of that has been down to injury. But Postecoglou’s critics believe that he is not always doing Tottenham many favours by not deviating from his philosophy.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast, Micky Gray suggested that the style of play may be what stops Tottenham taking that next step under Postecoglou.

“Let’s not forget Tottenham sold their best player as well,” he said.

“But they were able to bring in reinforcements in certain positions. And I think we all enjoyed the style of football from Ange Postecoglou. They got off to a brilliant start.

“I hope this comes out the right way. It’s not winning football, and winning ie Champions League football, winning silverware. It’s great on the eye. But at times, it’s ridiculous. It’s beyond belief sometimes when you watch the high line.”

Spurs boss thrives on proving doubters wrong

The worry was that Tottenham could have hardly picked a stronger lineup against Fulham. Micky van de Ven was probably the only player not involved who would get into Postecoglou’s best side.

But Spurs are always going to have off days. It is also important to remember where Tottenham were when Postecoglou took over. There was disarray in the weeks after Antonio Conte left.

The football is so much better to watch. And Tottenham never know when they are beaten. So it would be no surprise to see them improve further next season.

And you really get the impression that Postecoglou thrives when he is doubted and people are tempted to criticise him.
