White House: Biden to host Japan and Philippines leaders on April 11

US President Joe Biden was set to host the leaders of Japan and the Philippines on April 11, the White House said on Monday.

Biden will host Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the first trilateral US-Japan-Philippines leaders' summit, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

The leaders were set to "reaffirm the ironclad alliances" between the three countries, "discuss trilateral cooperation" and "further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific and around the world," Jean-Pierre said.

In addition to the trilateral talks, Biden was set to host Marcos for a meeting "to review the historic momentum" in bilateral relations and "discuss efforts to expand cooperation on economic security, clean energy, people-to-people ties, and human rights and democracy."
