'Catches my eye...': International boss explains what he really loves about Sheffield Wednesday gem

Sheffield Wednesday’s Bailey Cadamarteri has been told he has all the ‘attributes’ to become a successful striker on the international stage.

Bailey Cadamarteri only made his Championship debut in November, having emerged from the U21s and impressing Danny Rohl.

The striker enjoyed a stint in the starting line-up, netting three goals in his first seven matches for the Owls.

However, Cadamarteri has now started only two of the last eleven matches, withIke Ugbo claiming his spot at the point of attack.

The 18-year-old’s breakthrough campaign has calmed down a bit since the turn of the year, but that hasn’t stopped the battle for his international allegiance.

The Leeds-born youngster was called up to England’s U19 national team for the first time for their upcoming meetings with Morocco and the USA, but he was also handed the opportunity to take a big step up to the Jamaica senior team.

Cadamarteri is of Italian, Irish and Jamaican descent and it is the Caribbean island that are eager to snap him up ahead of the Three Lions.

The attacker has chosen to stick with England for now, but is thought to be open to committing to Jamaica further down the line.

Despite rejection for now, Jamaica boss Heimir Hallgrimsson has heaped praise on Cadamarteri.

Speaking in his press conference (via The Star), Hallgrimsson said: “Firstly he’s like Kaheim Dixon (another young Jamaican attacker).

“He has got goals written all over him – in his youth career he’s scored a lot of goals. But for me, as a striker what catches my eye is that he’s really hard working, he’s got constant running in behind defences, and he’s a good link up player.

“He’s clever using spaces and his technique is really good, so I think he has all the attributes that a good striker should have – but he’s still young, like Kaheim Dixon.”

Who could Bailey Cadamarteri join in the Jamaica set-up?

Bailey Cadamarteri is a huge talent with major potential, and there’s no doubt he can one day become a very important player for Sheffield Wednesday.

The forward will undoubtedly make his mark on the international stage too, but he does have a very tricky decision on who that will be for.

England is a hard opportunity to turn down if given the chance, but Cadamarteri could be waiting a while if he wants to play regularly for the Three Lions.

Cadamarteri definitely wouldn’t be the first English player to commit to the Reggae Boyz, with former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Michael Hector making 38 appearances for the country, while Di’Shon Bernard made his international debut last year.

The likes of Michael Antonio, Demarai Gray and Omari Hutchinson have also all swapped allegiances in recent years.
