Three things Enzo Maresca must solve for Leicester City to get promoted

Leicester City bowed out of the FA Cup on Sunday, having suffered a close-fought defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The East Midlanders now have full focus on the Championship heading into the remaining nine games of the season.

Over the weekend, automatic promotion rivals Leeds United and Ipswich Town were in action whilst City went toe to toe with Chelsea.

The pair secured victory and ramped the pressure up on The Foxes, who dropped to second with Leeds moving to the summit on goal difference.

Enzo Maresca‘s side have a game in hand on the aforementioned pair and must take full advantage of that.

Up next is a trip to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City which certainly won’t be an easy game and the reverse fixture evinces that notion.

As we head into the business end of the season, here are three things Maresca must solve for Leicester to get promoted.

City have suffered a blip of late which has seen them dragged back into the chasing pack, having had a comfortable lead at the top of the table.

Maresca’s side have won one of their last five league games and that has largely been down to their profligate nature.

The three successive defeats to Middlesbrough, Leeds and Queens Park Rangers all had one thing in common, wastefulness.

Enzo Maresca must solve Leicester City’s late goals issue

On several occasions this term, Leicester have thrown games away late on and it is a nasty habit they must get rid of.

City have dropped 12 points from winning positions and should they have seen out those leads, they’d be on 94 points right now and out of sight from their rivals, as per Transfermarkt.

Perhaps Maresca should consider making his substitutions earlier, as he is often reluctant to make a change until the latter stages.

Enzo Maresca must solve Leicester City’s over-reliance on Jamie Vardy

It has become evident throughout the course of the season that Jamie Vardy remains the best striker at the club, despite turning 37 in January.

The veteran forward is City’s top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions but unfortunately, he can’t play every game.

Vardy has to be managed and when he is out of the team, Leicester lack a real goal threat and potency up top.

Kelechi Iheanacho started the season well but has been absent of late partly due to Patson Daka‘s return to the side but also the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria international deserves another shot in the starting line-up.
