Xabi Alonso has just broken another record at Bayer Leverkusen, this one will really impress FSG - opinion

Xabi Alonso is by far the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool come the end of the season. The former Liverpool midfielder is pretty much unrivalled in terms of his managerial achievements in such a short space of time.

What Alonso has achieved at Bayer Leverkusen, few people have been capable of over the last two decades. In fact, in the last decade, only Jurgen Klopp has managed to beat the Bayern Munich hegemony and win the Bundesliga title – something Alonso is very much on course to accomplish with eight games to go and ten points clear at the top of the table.

On top of that the 42-year-old has also broken the longest unbeaten record in German history stretching Bayer Leverkusen’s run of games without a defeat to 35 games and beating the previous record help by Pep Guardiola which was 32 games.

And now he has made Bayer Leverkusen history as well, becoming one of the most successful managers in a single season for the club. Once again, proving he is in a league of his own.

What record Xabi Alonso has broken now

According to Squawka, Xabi Alonso has now won 22 games in the Bundesliga this season. That is the most games Bayer Leverkusen has won in a single season in the club’s entire history.

It’s another record for the former Liverpool midfielder in what has been a historic campaign. There is no denying that what Alonso has done this season makes him by far and away the best candidate for the Liverpool job.

His latest record will only make him more appealing to FSG. At Leverkusen, Alonso has had to operate under tight budges and finances. Yet he has proven he can squeeze the best out of his players and even get performances out of them that no manager has been able to achieve in the club’s entire history.

That’s the kind of thing Jurgen Klopp has always done at Liverpool. And that’s the kind of manager FSG love to employ. Which is why even on paper Alonso is the perfect man to sit on Jurgen Klopp’s throne at Anfield next season.
