£15m player is determined to stay at Tottenham for the long term, he doesn't want to leave - journalist

It’s clear that Ange Postecoglou will need to make some key decisions at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and some players will leave as a result.

Perhaps the set-back that Postecoglou and his Spurs side suffered against Fulham was a reminder about how early their project still is.

Although Tottenham have played some excellent football this season and claimed some brilliant results, they are not the finished product just yet.

In truth, Postecoglou will probably still want to make a ton of changes to the squad, bettering the chances of such a performance being repeated.

It’ll certainly be intriguing to see which profiles the Spurs boss and Daniel Levy do end up bringing in, with there not being one single obvious weakness right now.

Perhaps a new striker will be sought, someone to finally replace Harry Kane’s position in the squad if not his goals.

And with that in mind, Spurs will need to make a decision on Timo Werner’s future.

The Tottenham forward appeared to be a Postecoglou signing, a player he believed he could improve, and it has now been shared that Werner really doesn’t want to leave any time soon.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg shared this information on X today when providing the latest timeline on Werner’s next steps.

Spurs have a £15m option to buy Werner permanently which will need to be activated by the start of the Euros if the club choose to do so.

Plettenberg explained: “Timo Werner feels very comfortable at Tottenham and would like to stay long-term.

“The option to buy of around €17m must be activated by the start of the EUROs at the latest.

“A future at RB Leipzig is unlikely for either side. Contract is valid until 2026. If Tottenham does not permanently sign him, Werner very open to leave Leipzig in the summer.”

“2 goals and 2 assists in 8 matches for Tottenham yet.”

And whilst most Tottenham fans will probably imagine that Postecoglou does want to keep Werner around – could the club be a little more ambitious?

There’s no doubt that the deal would represent good value, and Werner does have strong attributes, but he’s certainly not a player who is currently looking like he will take the club to the next level.

That being said, Gabriel Agbonlahor has recently called for Werner and one other Tottenham player to stop starting games.
