Report: Liverpool have made contact to sign 26-year-old PL defender who's almost as fast as Darwin Nunez

Antonee Robinson has quietly been one of the best full-backs in the Premier League this season, and now, he’s a target for Liverpool.

The American has been utterly brilliant for Fulham over the past 12 months, and his performance against Spurs at the weekend only served to underline how brilliant he is these days.

The speedster tore Tottenham to shreds, and, understandably, big clubs are now sitting up and taking notice.

According to As Roma Live, Liverpool and Manchester City have made contact over signing Robinson heading into the summer, as Fulham look to sign Roma’s Leanardo Spinazzola as a replacement – hence why an Italian website has this story.

Robinson would be a fantastic addition to this Liverpool side, but, of course, it’s hard to know whether or not he’d be a worthwhile signing until a new manager is in place.

Xabi Alonso, of course, is the frontrunner for the job at the moment, and he uses his wide defenders in a very particular way with Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo operating almost more as wingers than as full-backs at the moment.

Robinson is a good player, but he probably doesn’t have the technical ability to operate in such a way.

However, in a more traditional full-back role, Robinson would be utterly fantastic, his pace is scary – clocking in a top speed last season that was only 0.06 mp/h slower than Darwin Nunez’s top speed, while he’s also brilliant at making those overlapping runs – even if his crossing does leave a lot to be desired.

Whether or not the Reds push on with this deal or not remains to be seen, but it sounds as though they are putting the feelers out on this one.

The 26-year-old Fulham star is certainly ready for a move to a big club, and a move to Anfield may well beckon this summer.
