Liverpool interested in signing £43m forward who Thierry Henry loves

Liverpool are continuing to formulate their plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Although the Reds don’t yet know who’ll be managing the team come June, they do now at least have Michael Edwards in place to oversee all football matters.

Having worked plenty of recruitment magic in the past, Liverpool fans will be expecting some big things from Edwards and Richard Hughes, who is likely to come in as sporting director.

With that in mind, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed on X that the Reds are a ‘concrete option’ to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen.

“Been told that Man Utd is not seriously pushing for the 25 y/o winger at this stage!” says Plettenberg. “Arsenal, Liverpool and other clubs from the Premier League are more concrete options for him in the summer!

“Malen still wants to leave BVB in summer. Price valuation from all parties involved: €40-50m [£34-43m] all-in! 13 goals and 5 assists this season in all competitions. Contract valid until 2026.”

Liverpool in for Malen

Liverpool have been rumoured to have been looking at Malen for a long while now. However, since the Dutchman joined Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven, he hasn’t exactly set the world alight.

That has changed this season, with Malen finally making good on his potential.

In the process of scoring 13 goals for Dortmund he has certainly earned some fans along the way. Arsenal legend Thierry Henry recently shared his delight at seeing Malen deliver for the German club [Sportskeeda].

His good form has made it likely that the Netherlands international will be on the move at the end of the campaign.

For the time being, it still remains unknown exactly who Liverpool will be targeting in their first window without Klopp for nine years.

If they retain all five of their senior attacking options, then they probably don’t need to add another.

But rumours persist around Mohamed Salah’s future, while Luis Diaz has also been linked with a move away over recent weeks.

In the event that Liverpool lose one or both of Salah and Diaz, Malen might come into the picture. He’s certainly worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the season.
