Man City eyeing 'blistering' £51m star who has twice as many assists as Jeremy Doku this term - journalist

Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Johan Bakayoko ahead of the summer transfer window, with the winger having shone over in the Netherlands this season.

City added four new players ahead of the 2023/24 season, and they have all had decent starts so far.

Jeremy Doku has perhaps been the most exciting addition, with the Belgian’s unpredictability and direct style really striking a chord with supporters.

He’s had periods of inconsistency and some injury problems, but there is a feeling of real optimism about Doku, who is still only 21 years old.

But it looks as though City could now be interested in signing another exciting Belgian winger in the form of Johan Bakayoko…

It is now the international break and as ever, there are transfer rumours involving Manchester City.

According to Sky Germany reporter Patrick Berger, the Champions League holders are currently monitoring Bakayoko, who’s had a really productive season over in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.

The 20-year-old has been heavily involved so far, making 40 appearances for a total of 3074 minutes.

Across those 40 appearances, he has scored eight goals and made 13 assists for a total of 21 goal involvements. That is nearly double the amount of goal contributions Doku has managed for City (five goals and six assists in 33 appearances).

Berger states that there is plenty of interest in Bakayoko. According to him, Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also keen.

The journalist adds that his price tag is currently somewhere between €50-60 million (£43-51 million).

Bakayoko looks a top prospect

It will be intriguing to see if Bakayoko is someone Man City seek to try and sign this summer although, on the face of it, it doesn’t seem likely.

He seems to have a similar style to Doku, with Breaking The Lines reporting that he likes to make ‘direct runs’ and possesses ‘blistering speed’.

But it is also stated that Bakayoko has good ball control and that he has ‘superb’ confidence.

As much as Pep wants him to stay, Bernardo Silva could potentially depart this summer and that would create a need for someone to play wide right, especially if Phil Foden is going to play the majority of games in the middle.

Bakayoko has exclusively played on the right wing this season, so perhaps if Bernardo does go then he might be someone the club considers.
