Nostalgic family comedy turns 14 today and all 7 movies in the franchise are on Disney+

They grow up so fast, don’t they? You’ll always see people making posts about celebrities, musicians, and actors reaching another year older, but sometimes you’ll also see people celebrating the birthdays of movies they love—as they should. A movie can really hit the spot even more when you’re watching on the anniversary of its release, measuring so much time past. Today, it’s the birthday of a beloved family comedy classic, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie turns 14

Based on Jeff Kinney’s popular 2007 book of the same name, the American comedy movie Diary Of A Wimpy Kid first opened in theaters on March 19th 2010.

Leaping from page to screen, Zachary Gordon plays Greg Heffley, a preteen who navigates the perils and pitfalls of middle school, all while doing his best to become the popular kid and jotting down his thoughts in a diary.

The original book encouraged so many young kids to embrace the joys of reading, and going to see the adaptation was a formative experience for a lot of people a certain age back in 2010. I have memories of watching it on repeat with younger family members and them adoring it.

A bunch of fans have taken to Twitter to look back. “The greatest movie ever,” one argued, and for lots of preteens back then, it honestly was. “Wow I feel old,” another weighed in, and yeah, I can relate.

“The way this is too iconic,” one tweeted, with another declaring it “the poster child for book adaptations done right.”
