Aiden McGeady makes encouraging Celtic title observation after weekend's events

Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership after securing a convincing 3-1 victory over St Johnstone last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ men dominated proceedings and managed to cut through Craig Levein’s side regularly, resulting in Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Post-match, the Irishman paid tribute to the synergy shown among the players and supporters on the day that helped to provide an atmosphere of encouragement on our road to collecting three points.

He stated: “I’m very pleased, it was a very good performance. The whole stadium, it felt really good today and really connected. From the first whistle, the supporters got behind the team and got their rewards. We scored three goals and could have had more.”

Of course, Celtic managed to overtake Rangers at the top of the table amid our rivals’ trip to Dundee on Sunday being called off courtesy of a waterlogged pitch.

It is unclear when the match will be rescheduled, though we can enjoy our lead at the summit for now, which is likely to give the Bhoys a minor psychological boost heading into the rest of the campaign.

Either way, we await the return of those who are away representing their respective nations before taking on Livingston in West Lothian at the end of this month.

Aiden McGeady delivers positive Celtic title verdict

Footballing traditionalists will value points on the board, while others may prefer to have a game in hand; nevertheless, Celtic are out in front at the moment, and it remains to be seen what transpires in the coming weeks as the title race intensifies.

Plenty of twists and turns are left to come in the final eight matches of our season, though former Bhoy Aiden McGeady is of the belief that his old side now have an advantage in their Scottish Premiership battle.

The Ayr United winger stated [Scottish Football Podcast]: “It leaves Celtic top of the league going into the international break, with Rangers playing catch-up now.

“Psychologically, when you’re playing catch up, and you’re the ones having to keep winning to maintain the pace and keep up with your rivals, psychologically, the focus now shifts back to Rangers when it could’ve been slightly different if the game went ahead.”

Celtic just need to keep focusing on themselves in the league

Circumstances elsewhere aren’t within the Hoops’ control and don’t merit worrying about as we chase a domestic double.

Whether Rangers win their rescheduled game in hand or not, the Bhoys are still in a position to decide their own destiny this season amid the prospect of two Glasgow Derby clashes before the campaign ends.

Rodgers won’t be looking too far ahead during the international break, and hopefully, once we come through the other side, Celtic can continue to string together a run of consistent victories.
