Jurrien Timber is one of the newest Arsenal stars after signing for the Gunners in July 2023 from AFC Ajax, so here is everything that you need to know about the defender.

The Gunners raided de Godenzonen to sign Timber in 2023 as manager Mikel Arteta wanted to sign a versatile enforcer. Arsenal paid Ajax an initial £34m, rising £4.5m in future add-ons, for their academy graduate. He also signed a five-year contract to head to Emirates Stadium.

Timber had never played outside of his native Netherlands before his move to north London in 2023. The defender started out in the youth ranks of DVSU at the age of four before spells with Feyenoord and Ajax. While his senior debut arrived for Ajax under Erik ten Hag in 2020.

Ten Hag brought Timber through from Ajax’s academy at 18 years, eight months and 19 days for an Eredivisie fixture against SC Heerenveen. The versatile gem, who grew up as a centre-half but can play as a right or a left-back, would go on to play 121 games for de Godenzonen.

Timber, who rose up Ajax’s ranks idolising Matthijs de Ligt, also made his senior Netherlands debut in 2021. Frank de Boer started the defender in a friendly against Scotland at 19 years, 11 months and 16 days. But who is Arsenal’s Timber and what is his life outside of football?

As of the time of writing, Arsenal star Jurrien Timber is 22 years old. He was born on June 17 in 2001 and has four brothers, called Shamier, Cris, Dylan and Quinten, who is even his twin.

Where was Jurrien Timber born?

Jurrien Timber was born in the Dutch city of Utrecht and has also only ever represented the Netherlands at the international level. But he has Aruban and Curacaoan roots, as well, via his parents. Timber’s mum, Marilyn, is from Aruba, while his estranged dad is from Curacao.

He regularly holidays in the Caribbean and has a very close relationship with his mum. While Timber is also only his maternal name, having changed it from his dad’s surname of Maduro.
