Three lessons Chelsea can learn from their last game at Wembley ahead of FA Cup semi-final vs Manchester City

Chelsea will now be well aware of their recent record at Wembley stadium in some of the biggest games of the season.

They only need to look back less than a month from now to realise just how bad their experiences have been there, with it being an all-time low as far as this campaign goes.

How Chelsea can beat Manchester City

A lot was made of the way the Blues were defeated, with them conceding late to a side who were missing a large set of the starting players due to injury.

After being described as ‘Billion-Pound Bottlejobs’ that day, there are three lessons Chelsea can learn from that performance ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

Don’t fall into playing the occassion

If you take the 11 Chelsea players and 11 Liverpool ones who started and then ended the League Cup final, there would be few arguments against the Blues having the stronger side.

However, the narrative was all there for Jurgen Klopp’s side to add to their trophy cabinet in his final season at the club.

The longer the game went on, the more it felt like it was destiny for Liverpool to win, and you can’t help but feel that the players on that pitch played into the occassion too.

Maybe the fact that this is a semi-final rather than a final will be a helping hand, however they need to focus on playing the game in front of them when they return to Wembley.

Take their chances

A regular theme of Wembley matches recently have been the Blues missing big chances in front of goal.

Mason Mount took a lot of the flack before, however the likes of Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher were guilty against Liverpool.

Chelsea’s lack of goals in these games has been a huge problem, however recently they have been finding the net on a more regular basis.

The likes of Palmer and Nicolas Jackson will be relied on to take any chances that come up for the Blues.

Chelsea are actually one of the only teams in the Premier League this season who have actually not been defeated by City this season.

The Blues played out two tough draws, with a late Palmer penalty against his former side bringing an end to a memorable first at Stamford Bridge.

Their second outing showed they could withstand almost anything the treble winners had to throw at them, with Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill impressing in particular.

It will obviously take a lot for them to put everything together on the big occassion of the FA Cup semi-final, however doing so could put them one step closer to a first trophy under the new ownership.
