'Breathtaking' Arsenal attacker out on loan played in an entirely new position last weekend

It’s clear that Arsenal have been trying to make better use of the loan market this season, sending several players out to play first team football.

Mikel Arteta currently has four senior players out on loan, with just the one coming in from other clubs, David Raya.

Arsenal of course plan to make that move permanent in the near future, which may also be the case with some of the players away from the club too.

It would be surprising for example if Kieran Tierney suddenly returned from his time at Real Sociedad with a place in the first team, no matter how gut-wrenching that may be for fans.

Similarly, Albert Sambi Lokonga seems likely to find a new club as well, even if he has made a ton of progress with Luton Town this season.

Although, that may not be the case just yet with 20-year-old winger Marquinhos.

The Arsenal man is currently on loan at Fluminense back in Brazil and although there’s rumours that a move could become permanent, nothing is decided quite yet.

That being said, Marquinhos did raise one or two eyebrows with the position in which he started in against Flamengo last weekend.

Arsenal winger Marquinhos played as a right-back out on loan last weekend

Marquinhos, who has played almost his entire senior career as a right or left winger, started at right back for Fluminense in a game that ended 0-0.

The Brazilian played 73 minutes before being substituted and started in a very unfamiliar position.

Journalist Jeorge Bird confirmed the news in his loan report following the weekend.

And according to Transfermarkt, and according to anyone who has watched Marquinhos at Arsenal, the 20-year-old has never played at right-back previously.

Marquinhos has shown snippets of his ‘breathtaking’ talent at Arsenal, but it remains to be seen if he will return to the club with a first team claim after this time out on loan.

In all honesty it does seem as if his chance has perhaps come and gone, a player who also struggled to quite show the required consistency in the Championship whilst on loan too.

All that being said, Arsenal may now have the chance to sign an exciting former player who wants to leave his current club.
