‘The sense is’: Journalist shares what he’s now heard about Micky Van de Ven’s injury at Tottenham

Micky Van de Ven has had an incredible debut season with Tottenham, but it’s not all been smooth sailing for the Dutchman.

Indeed, a recurring hamstring issue has plagued the centre-back throughout this season, and he missed this weekend’s game against Fulham with the same issue.

Tottenham were, of course, thrashed 3-0 at the weekend, and many were desperate to see Van de Ven back in the side after Radu Dragusin’s less than impressive full debut.

Speaking on The View From The Lane Podcast, Charlie Eccleshare has been discussing Van de Ven’s injury and when the centre-back will return to action, and he says that the sense within Spurs is that he will return not too long after the upcoming international break.

Micky Van de Ven set to return soon

Eccleshare gave an update on Van de Ven’s status.

“Yeah the sense is, well the hope is that he will be back soon after the international break. Whether that means against Luton, that’s the first game back, and that would be ideal, but the sense is that it won’t be too long after that either way,” Eccleshare said.

Much needed

This return will be a huge boost to Tottenham.

As much as we hate to say it, Spurs aren’t the same team without Van de Ven in the side.

The Dutchman’s combination of ability, power and, most importantly, pace allows Spurs to play in a much more front-footed defensive style, and that changes the whole make-up of the team.

It’s no coincidence that Spurs were exposed time and time again at the weekend without Van de Ven in the side, but, luckily, that problem should be solved in the coming weeks once the Dutchman is back in the side, fit and raring to go.

Van de Ven’s return in a few weeks will be much needed.
