Tottenham ready to battle Bayern Munich and Liverpool for ‘amazing’ 16-year-old wonderkid

Tottenham Hotspur have now checked in on the 16-year-old Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg ahead of the summer.

The midfielder is becoming one of England’s hottest young properties with some of Europe’s elite showing an interest.

And Tottenham are one of the latest clubs who have entered the running after a recent check in.

Tottenham interested in Chris Rigg

According to The Chronicle, Tottenham have now entered the race for the 16-year-old midfielder.

A number of Europe’s biggest clubs have shown an interest with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City credited in the report.

Even Bayern Munich have been linked in recent months alongside Chelsea and Manchester United.

Sunderland’s arch rivals, Newcastle United, are also looking to get one over on the Black Cats by closely monitoring Rigg.

The 16-year-old is yet to sign a pro deal on Wearside and would, therefore, potentially be available to sign for a small fee in the summer when he turns 17.

Who is Chris Rigg?

It is apparent Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at Tottenham has seen a shift in the mentality of putting trust in the youngsters.

Players such as Pape Matar Sarr have surfaced to play a huge role in the starting XI under the Australian this term.

And then there is the future arrival of Lucas Bergvall in the coming months after he signed in January.

The 18-year-old turned down a potential move to Barcelona in the winter market in favour of the Lilywhites.

And there is already a belief that he will be propelled into the first team under Postecoglou next season.

However, the possible interest in Rigg would provide a completely different scenario.

The Sunderland midfielder is yet to even be of age to sign a professional contract with the Black Cats.

Having been labeled “amazing” by Tony Mowbray, Rigg was able to make 10 appearances and provide two goals under the 60-year-old.

But those opportunities have slipped away since Mowbray’s departure.

Rigg is clearly a player who is expected to go on to do big things, but interim Sunderland boss Mike Dodds is not providing him with that platform.

A move to Spurs would potentially see Rigg slot into the U18s team or even Wayne Burnett’s U21s side given his projection, but he is unlikely to be a first-team player in the Premier League for years to come.
