'Really interesting': Ian Wright shares what Roy Keane was saying while watching Liverpool on Sunday

Ian Wright has shared what Roy Keane said about Liverpool during their FA Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester United on Sunday, with the Reds arguably throwing a semi-final place away at Old Trafford.

Something special appears to be happening with Liverpool this season. The players seem to have found an additional gear following the announcement that Jurgen Klopp will leave at the end of the season.

Few will ever forget Virgil van Dijk’s performance in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. And the Dutchman was hardly alone in producing some heroics at Wembley.

Ian Wright and Roy Keane bemused by Liverpool performance

It appeared to be a sign that Liverpool are determined to give their manager the best possible end to his incredible tenure. Unfortunately, that Carabao Cup final will now be the final time Klopp manages Liverpool at Wembley.

Liverpool had their FA Cup tie with Manchester United under control at the weekend. They led 2-1 in the latter stages of the 90 minutes. And they were 3-2 up in extra-time.

With that, the Reds must be wondering how exactly they are not now looking forward to a semi-final tie with Coventry City.

It was a remarkable game at Old Trafford; one of the games of the season in any competition. And it seems that the experts were just as baffled by how the tie played out as the rest of us.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House, Ian Wright suggested that the pundits could not quite believe what they were seeing, particularly from Liverpool.

“What was really interesting, I was sitting with Roy Keane and he was saying, I don’t know how to analyse this game,” he said.

“How do you analyse it really? You’re looking at a Liverpool side that I’ve not seen this season in the way they performed in that second-half. And you almost felt like can Man United take advantage of this?”

Reds will make amends as soon as possible

There were always going to be bumps in the road for Liverpool. It is remarkable that they have returned to the title picture in the Premier League this season. They have one trophy in the bag. And you would not be surprised to see them win more before Klopp heads off into the sunset.

But they have had so many injuries. And the players who have done so well probably found it too difficult to go to the well one more time in this period of the season.

Of course, it will be disappointing to get knocked out of the FA Cup. But Klopp is right that there will be bigger priorities.

And with that, Liverpool will be desperate to get back on track as soon as possible after the international break.

The reason Keane and Wright had not seen that Liverpool side previously this season was because they have been so, so good.

They will want to show that Sunday was the anomaly.
