£35m Real Madrid superstar has now suffered a two-month injury, he'll definitely miss UCL clash vs Man City

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has sustained yet another injury, which could mean he could miss both ties against Manchester City.

City face the Spanish giants for the third season in a row in the Champions League knockout rounds but this time around, it is in the quarter-finals and not in the semi-finals.

In the second leg of the semi-finals at the Etihad Stadium, Courtois had a game to remember, making a wide array of spectacular saves.

The Belgian number one denied Erling Haaland the chance to get on the scoresheet on multiple occasions, in particular.

Fresh injury could rule Thibaut Courtois out of Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City

The £35 million (BBC Sport) man suffered an ACL injury at the start of the season, which has kept him out for the majority of the campaign.

However, it seemed like the former Chelsea shotstopper would recover in time to face Pep Guardiola’s men, who were already seen as the favourites before his latest setback.

But now, it has been revealed that Courtois has suffered a ruptured internal meniscus in his right knee, as per the club’s official website.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 31-year-old is expected to be out of action for two months, with his season all but over.

With that in mind, Manchester City look set to face a Real Madrid side that will not feature Thibaut Courtois in both legs of their blockbuster clash in April.

Manchester City will still have their work cut out for them

While Real Madrid will lament the injury sustained by Thibaut Courtois, Manchester City will still have their work cut out for them.

Andriy Lunin has been brilliant as his understudy and with Los Blancos having quality across the board, it would be naïve for City to feel like they are expected to win just because they have suffered one major setback.

The same can be said for Los Blancos if they got carried away if the treble-winners suffered one injury.

The contest remains evenly-matched and only time will tell whether Manchester City beat Real Madrid over two legs once again or whether Carlo Ancelotti’s side will avenge their 5-1 battering over both ties to the English giants last season.
