Newcastle are ready to sell £21m Newcastle player for the right price this summer - journalist

Newcastle United are understood to be contemplating selling one of their key players in the summer after he attracted serious interest in January.

All avenues must be explored for the upcoming window if Newcastle are to have enough funds to bring in some new faces, and certain first-team players could be made available.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that Newcastle would entertain bids for Miguel Almiron if the right price came in after already accepting a January offer from Al Shabab.

Newcastle could have to be very ruthless this summer

It’s unclear at the moment what Newcastle’s finances will look like for the summer window with Champions League money now rolling in as well as receiving funding from commercial deals like the one with Adidas which will begin for the new season.

However, the rules on spending look to be getting tighter and tighter with two Premier League club handed point deductions already this year, so Newcastle will want to be very careful.

This may mean they have to get rid of any sellable assets who are not absolutely key to Newcastle’s future success, and Almiron is likely to be high up on that list at the minute.

The £21m winger has massively underperformed this season with just three goals and one assist in the league, so should they receive another decent off for the Paraguayan there’s a good chance he could leave Newcastle this summer.

On Almiron, Jacobs said: “They will entertain the sale of Miguel Almiron. I mentioned in January that Al-Shabab had a verbal agreement with Newcastle for around €30million.

“As is sometimes the slightly atypical Saudi approach, they went to the club first. You would expect that because, even though Al- Shabab are not a PIF-controlled club, it was a lot easier for them to go to PIF first and thrash out the basics of an agreement.

“They then went to the player’s side and Almiron didn’t want to move at that point. Had he done so, Newcastle would have wrapped that one up in January.

“I would expect more interest in Miguel Almiron from Saudi Arabia and other countries as well because it’s still not clear whether the player would move to Saudi Arabia. But if the right offer comes in for Miguel Almiron, Newcastle will sell him.”

Almiron won’t be the last to leave Newcastle

It entirely depends on what kind of fees Newcastle can get from these players, but it’s unlikely that Almiron is the only player who is moved on this summer if they are planning some big moves.

Callum Wilson is another name who has been mentioned who could garner a decent price given his goalscoring record, and with just one year left on his contract they won’t want the striker to walk away for free.

Newcastle may also have to free up some space in the midfield, especially if they want to bring in a new defensive midfielder, so Sean Longstaff could be made available with Leeds already showing interest for around £15m.

Eddie Howe won’t want to sell all three and risk upsetting the changing room atmosphere, but at some point they must move on from unreliable players who aren’t massively improving the first team.
