'Fantastic' gem & Super Lig star thrives: How Sheffield Wednesday's six summer exits are getting on

Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a dramatic play-off victory last season that saw them return to the Championship.

Their initial 4-0 hammering by Peterborough United in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals perhaps left many players uncertain over the future, while others could have been a lot more likely to stay if they had remained a League One club.

However, the Owls went onto enjoy a miraculous comeback and found themselves in the Championship – meaning it was time to part ways with those who weren’t cut out for life higher up.

Sheffield Wednesday offloaded six players in the summer, so we have taken a look at how they have got on since…

Dennis Adeniran – Portimonense

After two years with Sheffield Wednesday, Dennis Adeniran made a bold move to Portugal with Portimonense.

The midfielder managed only five minutes of action and was only named on the bench four times before he was sold to Israeli outfit Hapoel Petah Tikva.

Adeniran has started their last three games, scoring his first goal of the campaign earlier this month.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – Hatayspor

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru joined Turkish club Hatayspor in the summer and has so far enjoyed great success – scoring five goals and providing five assists in 28 games in the Super Lig.

Hatayspor currently sit 15th in the league table – just two points above the relegation zone.

Jack Hunt – Bristol Rovers

Jack Hunt stayed in League One with Bristol Rovers following three stints at Hillsborough.

The defender has started 20 matches in the third tier this term, picking up six goal contributions in the process. He was praised as‘fantastic’ and ‘first-class’ by former manager Joey Barton earlier this season.

The Gas currently sit safely in 13th place – 15 points above the relegation zone and 13 points below the play-offs.

Jaden Brown – Lincoln City/St Mirren

Jaden Brown also remained in League One with Lincoln City, but managed only three starts before he was sent out on loan to St Mirren in January.

The 25-year-old has made four cameo appearances in the Scottish Premiership, but is yet to make his full debut.

David Stockdale – York City

David Stockdale dropped all the way down to the National League with York City in the summer.

The 38-year-old has a wealth of experience in the EFL, but has been unable to retain the number one spot in York.

Stockdale started their first four games of the campaign before he was dropped.

Ben Heneghan – Fleetwood Town

Ben Heneghan was released in the summer, before eventually joining Fleetwood Town in September.

The defender has started 30 games in League One this season and has been named captain on five occasions.
