Thatcham woman Lisa Monaghan admits stalking offence

A WOMAN who denied blackmailing a man for money has admitted stalking him.

Lisa Monaghan had been due to stand trial for demanding money with menaces from Damien Pool by sending threatening communications and demands, which caused serious alarm or distress and which had a substantial adverse effect on his usual day-to-day activities.

Reading Crown Court

The 33-year-old, of Nideggen Close, Thatcham, was also accused of stalking Mr Pool by sending threatening communications and demands, which caused serious alarm or distress and which had a substantial adverse effect on his usual day-to-day activities.

Jolyon Robertson, prosecuting, said both offences were said to have been committed in Thatcham between January 1, 2016 and January 31, 2020.

On Tuesday, March 19, Monaghan pleaded guilty to the stalking offence.

Mr Robertson said that, in light of that plea, the blackmail charge would be left to lie on file.

This means that Monaghan will not face any trial, and the case will instead be sent for sentencing at a later date.

The court heard the prosecution would be seeking a restraining order to protect Mr Pool in due course.

Monaghan is due to be sentenced in May.

She was meanwhile released on bail with conditions.
