£158k-a-week man now expected to snub Barcelona and sign new Arsenal contract instead

Arsenal were terrible with their management of contracts a few years ago, but that has changed in recent seasons thanks to Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

Gone are the days when the Gunners would let their key men enter the final year of their contracts and give them the chance to force the club to pay them outrageous wages or push for a move away.

Arsenal have improved massively in that department over the last two years. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and most recently, Ben White, have all been tied down to long-term deals.

This shows Arsenal are going in the right direction, but there’s still one huge contract Edu Gaspar has to secure in the coming months.

Key Arsenal man expected to snub Barcelona and sign new Gunners contract

Arsenal are one of the best teams in Europe right now, and our progression over the last few years has been nothing short of incredible.

The Gunners are currently on top of the Premier League table and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where we will face German champions Bayern Munich.

Arsenal are in an incredible position now, and one of the biggest reasons why we are where we are is our manager, Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard has well and truly transformed our club. We were in a terrible place when he took over, but his brilliance has made us elite again.

That’s why it’s no surprise to see Barcelona be interested in appointing Arteta as their new manager, but journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Daily Briefing that the 41-year-old is expected to snub the Catalans and sign a new Arsenal contract instead.

He has revealed that Arteta is happy at Arsenal and has absolutely no plans of leaving the club this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal salary compared to Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp are widely regarded as the best managers in the world.

Mikel Arteta is going toe to toe with both of them and is currently ahead of the two world-class managers in the Premier League table.

That should put the Spaniard closer to Guardiola and Klopp. He will definitely be up there if he manages to lead Arsenal to the Premier League and/or Champions League titles this season.

While negotiating a new deal, we’re sure Arteta’s representatives will demand that recognition, which means Stan Kroenke will have to pay the big bucks to keep hold of him.

Arteta currently earns £8.3 million a year at Arsenal, which comes down to about £158,000 a week. Klopp, on the other hand, pockets almost double – £16 million a year.

Manchester City boss Guardiola is the second-highest-paid manager in the world, earning an annual salary of £20 million.
