Montenegro boss shares injury update on Preston North End striker Milutin Osmajic

Montenegro boss Robert Prosinecki has indicated that Preston North End striker Milutin Osmajic will not be on international duty.

It’s difficult not to feel sorry for Milutin Osmajic.

The Montenegrin striker had enjoyed a decent start in a PNE shirt after a big move from Cadiz on deadline day.

Injury against Middlesbrough in November halted Osmajic’s momentum and he found himself on a 15-game goal drought as he battled for minutes.

Osmajic found the net against Stoke City with a superb header and illness for Emil Riis meant Osmajic started against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

This was the chance for Osmajic to really get his momentum back, but it all went wrong.

An ankle injury suffered inside the first 10 minutes meant Osmajic was substituted, with the striker clearly in considerable pain.

There has been little news about Osmajic’s injury since Saturday but Montenegro boss Robert Prosinecki has now commented on the situation.

Former Real Madrid and Portsmouth star Prosinecki is the new Montenegro boss having been appointed in February.

Montenegro missed out on Euro 2024 and have now turned to a fairly big name in ex-Croatia international Prosinecki.

Montenegro now take on Belarus and North Macedonia over the next week with Prosinecki looking to learn about his new players.

Speaking to Meridian Sport in Montenegro, Prosinecki noted that both Osmajic and midfielder Andrija Radulovic are out injured and no longer part of the squad.

Prosinecki vowed to keep following both players moving forward whilst suggesting that their absences are ‘not the end of the world’ right now.

It’s all about Prosinecki finding out more about his players and Osmajic will seemingly have more chances to shine when back from injury.

“Radulović and Osmajić were injured,” said Prosinecki. “We continue to follow these players and it is not the end of the world that they will not be with us now. The most important thing for us is the League of Nations, to get as close as possible until then and for the players to see how I think,” he added.

Few PNE fans really expected Osmajic to be featuring for Montenegro this week as his injury against Argyle looked to be a painful one.

Osmajic will hope that his season isn’t over and that he can still recover to make an impact in PNE’s push for the Championship play-offs.

Maybe time over the international break to rest and recuperate is just what Osmajic needs and Prosinecki confirming that he won’t feature for Montenegro is probably for the best.
