Israel attacks Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital, truce talks begin

The Israeli military continued to launch attacks on Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the territory’s largest medical complex where about 30,000 people, including displaced families, patients and medical staff, are sheltering inside.

Israel said on Wednesday it had killed "90 gunmen" in the hospital compound, which it claims is a base for Hamas fighters, without providing any evidence, and arrested some 300 people after conducting aggressive searches and raids. A correspondent from Al Jazeera Arabic was beaten and detained by Israeli soldiers, the network said on Monday.

Civilians collecting aid at the Kuwait Roundabout in north Gaza early on Wednesday morning were met by gunfire, the latest in a series of deadly assaults on aid distributions and trucks. 24 people were killed and dozens injured, local media reported.

Meanwhile, renowned negotiations over a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas entered the third day following Tuesday’s meeting between Israeli intelligence officials and Qatari mediators in Doha. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said it was still too early to talk about an agreement at a press briefing on Tuesday.

On the 166th day of the war in Gaza, 31,819 people have been killed and 73,934 people have been wounded since October.
