Report: Chelsea are regularly speaking with 20-year-old star they loaned out, his contract expiries next summer

From all the Chelsea youngsters currently developing their game out on loan right now, Omari Hutchinson may be the player to be most excited about.

We remember a lot of hype when Chelsea signed Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal in the summer of 2022, snapping up a very highly-rated talent from the Gunners academy.

Now aged 20, he’s making his mark on first-team football during a season-long loan spell at Championship club Ipswich Town.

Apparently, the Blues are still in regular communication with their rising star throughout the campaign.

The Athletic claims that Chelsea are ‘very happy’ with how Hutchinson’s loan spell has progressed at Ipswich.

It is explained that Mauricio Pochettino’s side has been in regular talks with the 20-year-old to express their delight.

The report adds that the left-footed attacker has just over a year left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea plan to sit down and discuss his future once this season is over.

There’s several teams already eyeing Hutchinson with a view to a transfer or loan next season, but The Athletic states it would be a surprise if he doesn’t get rewarded with a new Blues contract.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via Substack last month that clubs in the German Bundesliga are among the interested suitors for Hutchinson this summer.

Hutchinson’s electric form since February

Hutchinson has got progressively better as the campaign has moved forward in the Championship.

Now we’re in the tense months of the season as Ipswich fight for automatic promotion, the Chelsea loanee has come out of his shell and is playing his best stuff to date.

If you look at the 10 league games he’s played since the start of February, it’s a very healthy return of five goals and three assists. On top of his attacking output, he’s a delight to watch because he’s a skilful forward that loves to dribble 1v1 at opponents.

He’s usually deployed as a right-winger causing havoc to opposition full-backs, but he showed his threat in a No 10 position by scoring twice in Ipswich’s 6-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

We’re quietly optimistic that Hutchinson’s got a chance of a first-team breakthrough at Chelsea within the next couple of years, but it’s so important how the club maps out his future this summer. For now, the young attacker can keep focused on his football and firing Ipswich back to the Premier League.
