Arsenal now 'most likely' to sign £80m striker compared to Thierry Henry by staff

Arsenal have been deemed to be leading the charge to sign one 16-goal striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal may well make a move for Alexander Isak in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Newcastle United forward will attract interest this summer. Arsenal have been admirers of Isak for some time.

Mikel Arteta is known to be on the lookout for a new striker. Arsenal have been linked with number of potential upgrades on Gabriel Jesus, who has struggled in front of goal this season. The Brazilian has netted just four times in 19 Premier League outings this season.

Meanwhile, across 30 outings in all competitions, Isak has found the back of the net on 16 occasions. 12 of these strikes have come in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has proven that he has the pace, power, and technical ability to thrive in the top flight of English football. As reported by The Athletic, Isak has even been compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry by Newcastle staff members.

The Magpies have put an £80 million price tag on the 42-cap Sweden international. That may not be enough to put the Gunners off, though. According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal are the “most likely suitors” to come forward for Isak this summer.

Do Arsenal need Alexander Isak?

Isak would be a fascinating addition to Arteta’s squad. Not only would he offer another option to lead the line, but he can also operate comfortably on the left flank, where he would provide cover and competition for Gabriel Martinelli.

However, there is an argument that signing a striker ought not be a priority for Arsenal this summer. Kai Havertz has impressed in that role in recent weeks, and beyond the German and Jesus, Leandro Trossard can also provide a solid option up front. Arsenal are likely to move on Eddie Nketiah this summer, but if he were to remain at the Emirates Stadium, he would be another alternative.

There are other areas of the squad in more pressing need of attention. Arsenal are due a midfield overhaul, a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale will be required, as well as adequate cover for Bukayo Saka.

If the Gunners do decide to pursue a striker, though, then Isak would be an intriguing option, and it now looks as though the north London outfit are well-placed to win the race for his signature.
