Tomiyasu describes what he ‘never thought' would happen at Arsenal after new contract

Takehiro Tomiyasu has detailed how connected he feels to Arsenal more than other clubs the defender has played for in the past.

The Japanese international today signed his new long-term contract with the Gunners with Tomiyasu committing his future with the north London giants until 2026.

Signed from Bologna in 2021, Tomiyasu has become a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium due to his defensive flexibility and incredible performances at the back against some of the Premier League’s best players.

And speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Tomiyasu revealed that he has never felt more connected to a club than he does now with the Gunners, with the defender clearly a popular figure in the squad.

With Arsenal also signing Ben White to a new long-term contract, Mikel Arteta and his team are working wonders in keeping influential figures at the club, with Tomiyasu seemingly set on remaining with Arsenal.

The defender said when asked what surprised him most about joining Arsenal: “To be honest, I never expected to even be selected by Arsenal. I never thought I’d even be at the club, so it’s hard to find something that compares to that.

“You really get the feeling that you’re part of one of the world’s biggest clubs. There’s also the connection with the supporters, no other club I’ve been at really feels connected like Arsenal”

Tomiyasu has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers over the last three years, even with injuries limiting the defender’s game time quite severely during that time.

And after signing a new contract, Tomiyasu will want to repay the favour to Arsenal by taking his game to another level and helping the Gunners push for silverware.

This season alone could see Arsenal win the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, and Tomiyasu will want to help the north London side claim both in the coming weeks.
