Arsenal fans are all now saying the same thing about Takehiro Tomiyasu

Many Arsenal fans have now had their say on Takehiro Tomiyasu after the defender was handed a new contract.

Arsenal have now secured the future of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese defender has extended his stay at the Emirates Stadium. Since he first arrived in north London from Serie A outfit Bologna in the summer of 2021, he has caught the eye with his versatility and professionalism. Tomiyasu has been identified as one of Arsenal’s hardest-working players in training.

Tomiyasu is a useful player for Mikel Arteta to have at his disposal. The 25-year-old can slot in comfortably in any position across the back line. He is defensively solid, technically secure, and always gives his best for team, no matter where he is asked to play.

However, recurring injuries have dogged him throughout his Arsenal career so far. He hasn’t been seen in action in red and white since the Gunners lost to Fulham on New Year’s Eve. After featuring for his country in the Asia Cup, he returned to Arsenal with an injury. He had already been sidelined with a calf complaint for the vast majority of December.

Tomiyasu has had injury problems in each of his two previous campaigns with the capital city club, too. Arteta has previously spoken out about how much of a problem Tomiyasu’s frequent absences have caused.

There is no doubting his talent, but his lack of reliable availability must have been a consideration when weighing up the decision to hand the player fresh terms.

Arsenal fans react to new Takehiro Tomiyasu contract

Despite these concerns, Arsenal have officially announced that the 41-cap Japan international has now been handed a new deal.

In response to this news, plenty of the club’s supporters took to X to express their views on the decision. One fan said, “Signed Sealed and Delivered, great news to finally see Tomiyasu extend his Arsenal stay, despite his injuries he’s been influential and contributed enormously to the team spirit and development. Hoping to see more of him on the pitch as we launch our final assault on the UCL and the premier league title.”

Another supporter stated, “Elite player. Suspect the new deal is a sign that the club are confident his fitness issues will be resolved because I don’t think we’re in the business of giving them out as a a gesture anymore.”

One fan asked, “Given that it’s only till 2026 with an option for a year (he’ll be 28 in 2027 when the contract expires) do you think he’s been given a year (till summer 2025) to prove his fitness or he’ll be sold and we’ll sign a replacement?”

Another chipped in with, “It’s to 2026 with an option of another year, so I think there’s been some careful planning, just in case his injury record doesn’t improve. If he stays fit he’s the perfect player to keep around for cover across the back line.”
