Worry for Unai Emery: One Aston Villa star to travel 12,000 miles just days before Wolves clash

Several of Aston Villa’s stars are set to jet off around the world as international football takes centre stage.

The two-week break is a concern for Premier League bosses, as injuries and fatigue could potentially impact their squads.

Emi Martinez is one player who is set to rack up the air miles, and the Aston Villa boss would be rightfully concerned about the keeper’s condition upon his return to the West Midlands.

How far is Emiliano Martinez travelling on Argentina duty?

Martinez is now the undisputed number one for Argentina and should play a part in the World Champions’ friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica. Unfortunately, the location of the fixtures is far from ideal.

Firstly, the 31-year-old will travel to Philadelphia to join up with the squad. A distance of over 3500 miles. After the El Salvador fixture at Lincoln Financial Park, the La Albiceleste squad travel to Los Angeles to play Costa Rica at the United Airlines Field in the early hours of Wednesday morning, a stadium conveniently located 2700 miles away on the opposite side of the United States.

After the fixture, the 31-year-old will jet back to the U.K. on an 11-hour flight covering nearly 5500 miles.

Overall, the Aston Villa goalkeeper will travel nearly 12,000 miles and will arrive back in the country either on Thursday or Friday.

With the Villans taking on Wolves late on Saturday evening, Emery will be eager for his number one to be on top form regardless of the miles covered over the coming weeks.

Where are the rest of Aston Villa’s internationals heading?

Elsewhere, Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa will represent England in the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley. It will be intriguing to see if Gareth Southgate deploys the Villa striker alongside Harry Kane.

Douglas Luiz will face off against the duo at the home of football after being selected for the Brazil squad. Youri Tielemans will represent Belgium in the fixtures against England and the Republic of Ireland.

John McGinn will also play for Scotland against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland. Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Matty Cash will represent France, Italy, and Poland, respectively.

Finally, Robin Olsen and Joe Gauci will also feature for Sweden and Australia.
