Celtic will be rubbing their hands in glee at least SPFL Rangers announcement: view

Rangers’ rescheduled fixture with Dundee will take place 10th of April – meaning Celtic could come to Ibrox as Scottish Premiership leaders.

The Gers were left furious when Dundee’s waterlogged Dens Park pitch was deemed unplayable by whistler Don Robertson heading into the international break.

After the Parkhead side had defeated St Johnstone, they went top of the Scottish Premiership by a point, albeit with Rangers having a game in hand.

The SPFL have now announced that the fixture will take place on Wednesday 10th of April at 8pm, with Rangers having a full week to prepare for the 7th of April Old Firm.

Rangers to play Dundee after Celtic clash

The news will be met differently in Rangers circles, the situation weighing heavy on a club bandaged up amid a run of injuries.

Rangers had hobbled to the international break and could have as many as four or five players back fit by the time the Scottish Premiership resumes.

But whilst that is a clear benefit to the match being rescheduled, losing top spot heading into this crucial run of fixtures is a mental hurdle Philippe Clement’s team will have to clear.

Conjecture and conversation surrounding the call-off is largely irrelevant, at least in terms of the match itself, with Rangers now knowing when they will face Dundee at Dens Park.

Let’s just hope the bumbling John Nelms and co have their affairs in order for the next time we visit the City of Discovery.

SPFL rivals to ensure nervy Scottish Premiership finish

Of course, there is the small matter of a full Scottish Premiership card before the hotly anticipated April Old Firm clash and Rangers & Celtic fans might want to take note.

Rangers are at home to Hibs on the Saturday – and will themselves go top of the division with a victory – whilst Celtic face a trip to bottom of the table Livingston a day later.

Both fixtures have proven potential banana skins in the past and write off the other Scottish Premiership sides at your peril when it comes to this title tussle.

Rangers might have the advantage, but as home defeat to Motherwell for Rangers and then away defeat for Celtic at Hearts proves, there are plenty of twists and turns to come.
