Gladbach coach Seoane gets club backing amid difficult season

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has backed coach Gerardo Seoane despite a modest Bundesliga season and a German Cup exit against third division Saarbrücken.

Gladbach's squad underwent a major overhaul last summer and they are ranked 12th with eight games left, with just one victory in the second half of the season. The Cup quarter-final exit in Saarbrücken came last week.

That hasn't made the position of Seoane, who arrived in summer, any easier but Virkus told Sky TV that "I am 100% convinced that he is right coach.

"He is extremely communicative and engages intensively with the team. We knew the framework conditions, he also knew them and has implemented many of the things the club demanded. Not all of them yet, but that takes time," Virkus said.

Virkus added: "The season isn't over for us. We are striving to garner as many points and victories as possible to improve our situation in the standings. Whether the football is nice is secondary. At the end of the day we are measured by results."
