Report: Aston Villa now join Fulham in race for midfielder who is 'a bit like John McGinn'

Fulham may face a real battle with Premier League rivals over the signature of Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson.

Fulham fans are probably cursing the international break.

Saturday’s 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur was one of the finest performances of the season and Fulham fans understandably want more.

We must now wait until the 30th of March for another Fulham display asMarco Silva takes his side to Sheffield United.

In the meantime, fans will be watching Fulham players around the world as they embark on international duty – and may just be looking at a few transfer rumours too.

Fulham face Lewis Ferguson battle

Reports last week suggested that Fulham had started talks over a potential deal to sign Bologna star Lewis Ferguson this summer.

The Scot has been outstanding this season and is now attracting more and more interest.

Give Me Sport now claim that Fulham have been joined in the race for Ferguson by a host of Premier League clubs.

Aston Villa, Brentford, Everton and Newcastle United are now understood to have joined the race.

Those four clubs have been watching Ferguson ahead of a potential move for the midfielder this summer.

Brentford and Everton will surely have to wait until their Premier League status is secure before pushing ahead with a move.

That may give Fulham a window of opportunity to lay some groundwork and attempt to secure Ferguson ahead of the competition.

The 24-year-old has been outstanding this season, bagging six goals and four assists in 28 games for Bologna.

Ferguson’s influence has been clear as he has captained Bologna on a regular basis since October.

Primarily used as an attacking midfielder this season, Ferguson can also play as a box-to-box player and has been described as being ‘a bit like John McGinn’ by Barry Ferguson.

Villa may well see that comparison themselves and could be looking to add Ferguson alongside fellow Scot McGinn this summer.

Fulham may now face a real fight to fend off the likes of Villa and Newcastle for Ferguson, and we would hardly blame Bologna for bumping up the price with so many Premier League clubs now keen.
