Aid to Ukraine from the United States, whose funding bill is currently stalled in Congress, may be unlocked and delivered to Kyiv by the end of March or at the latest next month, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, Ukrainian officials are engaged in "active dialogue" with members of Congress from both parties, expressing concerns about the delay of the $60 billion aid package by Republican House members in Washington.
Shmyhal also hinted that he expects positive news on this issue "this month or maximum next month."
Issue of US assistance to Ukraine
Earlier, it was reported that the US Congress has been unable to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine for several months to continue arms shipments. This is due to the position of some Republican congressmen who refuse to vote on and approve the document.
Following the failure of the vote on Joe Biden's $106 billion bill for aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, a new $96 billion aid bill for the three countries was developed in early February of this year, but without a package concerning the protection of the southern US border with Mexico. Over $60 billion is allocated for Ukraine's needs in this bill.
On February 13, the Senate approved this document. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to bring the bill to a vote in the lower house of Congress.
Moreover, Johnson stated that the House of Representatives would unblock the bill for aid to Ukraine, but the document would significantly differ from the $95 billion package adopted by the Senate. In particular, assistance to our country will be provided under a loan or credit program.
On March 12, the US presidential administration announced the allocation of a new $300 million military aid package to Ukraine. This is the first military aid package to Ukraine from the United States since December 2023.
It should be noted that recently, the White House stated that this amount would be enough to purchase weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces for only two weeks.
