Arsenal now told why ‘perfect’ £80m striker must be Arteta’s top target this summer

Journalist Charles Watts has now revealed which striker he feels Arsenal ought to make their top summer transfer target.

Arsenal are on the hunt for a new goalscorer.

The Gunners are likely to invest in a new striker this summer. Arsenal have been linked with a number of potential upgrades for Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian forward has been in far from prolific form this season. Whilst injuries have once again impacted his campaign, he still has just four Premier League strikes to his name after 19 Premier League outings.

Why should Arsenal sign Alexander Isak?

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is one potential candidate to come to the Emirates Stadium and elevate the standard of the Gunners’ attacking contingent. The Swede has been in good form for the Magpies this season. He has racked up 16 goals in 30 appearances, across all competitions.

Arsenal are also said to be the “most likely suitors” for Isak’s signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, the 24-year-old won’t come cheap. Newcastle are thought to have put an £80 million price tag on Isak.

Arsenal have heavily backed Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu in recent windows, though, and based on the progress that the club have made this season, as they currently find themselves vying for both Premier League and Champions League glory, there is every reason to think that they will be permitted to spend heavily again.

Charles Watts certainly thinks that Isak would represent a worthy investment. Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube platform, the reporter said, “my choice for a striker is Alexander Isak from Newcastle. I just think he’s perfect. When I look at this Arsenal team, I look at how Isak plays, I look at how Arsenal play, I just think it fits.”

Do Arsenal need a striker this summer?

Jesus has vowed to change his game in an effort to become more prolific. On top of that, Kai Havertz has impressed in a false-nine role in recent weeks, whilst Leandro Trossard can also lead the line effectively when called upon. Eddie Nketiah is likely to leave Arsenal this summer, but he is another option Arteta can turn to for now. However, there is certainly a sense that the north London club could do with having more firepower on hand to spearhead their attack.

Whether this should be the top summer priority though, is another matter, especially as the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and even Declan Rice, can be relied upon to chip in with goals from elsewhere on the pitch. There are other areas of Arteta’s squad that are perhaps in more pressing need fn investment. Adequate cover for Saka is needed, for example, and a midfield rebuild is also on the cards for Arsenal.
