Internet erupts as political onlookers ask if Barron Trump is 'fair game' after turning 18

Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron, turned 18. While some media insiders suggested this made it "fair game" to go on the attack, other political onlookers on the left and right said to leave him alone.

Born March 20, 2006, Barron has largely remained out of the political eye. But as he turned 18, former NBC executive Mike Sington wrote, "Barron Trump turns 18 today. He's fair game now."

A popular social media satire page called Liam Nissan also said, "Barron Trump turned 18 but I will leave him alone until he says something stupid in public."

Former Republican lawmaker Joe Walsh, now an independent citizen supporting President Joe Biden, had this to say about Sington's anti-Trump message.

"This is a horrible thing to say. Take this tweet down."

Right-wing internet personality Breanna Morello said on Wednesday, "Imagine how severe your mental illness has to be to wake up at 4:44am PT thinking about Barron Trump being 18 and 'fair game.'"

Journalist Yashar Ali pointed out that Trump son "hasn't bothered anyone."

"He hasn’t bothered anyone and has never gotten involved in politics or made a public statement," he wrote Wednesday. "He deserves to be left alone. All children of candidates who don’t put themselves out there should be left alone."

Michael R. Caputo, the assistant secretary of public affairs under Trump, asked about Sington's own children on Wednesday.

"This creepy NBC guy is completely broken," Caputo said. "I wonder if he has kids? Nephews? Nieces? How old are they?"
