The Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany is investigating the leak of conversations among German officers regarding the deployment of Taurus missiles in Ukraine. There are suspicions of the involvement of intelligence services, according to ZDF.
The spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation is being conducted regarding unknown individuals. She refused to comment on the assumptions about who may be behind the leak from the Bundeswehr.
It is worth noting that at the beginning of March, Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan published an audio recording in which senior officers of the German Air Force discuss the theoretical possibilities of Ukraine using German Taurus cruise missiles. In particular, the recording discussed the possibility of striking the so-called Crimean Bridge with Taurus missiles.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that this incident would be quickly investigated. Additionally, the German Federal Military Counterintelligence Service has begun an investigation into the possible interception of conversations of German officers by the Russian side.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the reason for the recording was rather "an individual error in the application."
One of the participants failed to adhere to the proposed secure dialing procedure. Specifically, there was mention of a participant who dialed in from Singapore. Pistorius particularly emphasized that, contrary to assumptions to the contrary, "no third party" took part in the conference call.
