ISW experts have identified factors indicating Russia's preparation for war with NATO, according to the ISW report.

According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is intensifying efforts to transition Russia to a military economy with the intention of being able to attack NATO by 2026 or 2027, citing unnamed German research.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated on February 9 that new intelligence suggests Russia may attempt to attack a NATO country within three to five years, which is an accelerated timeline compared to NATO's assessment in 2023.

The timeline for the resurgence of a significant Russian military threat largely depends on the financial resources Putin is willing to allocate to military efforts.

Putin's efforts to stabilize Russia's economy and finances are most likely part of Russia's financial and internal preparations for a potential future large-scale conflict with NATO, rather than just a protracted war in Ukraine.

Earlier, we reported that German intelligence services are predicting a Russian attack on NATO starting in 2026.
