'I still believe': Gerard Pique insists Man United man is 'very good' but he's unsure over his future

Former Manchester United man Gerard Pique has now been having his say on the future of the club and what can be improved.

Pique retired from playing at the start of last year having amassed 616 appearances for Barcelona after returning to his boyhood club in 2005.

Of course, Sir Alex Ferguson gave Pique his chance at the club after he was signed from Barcelona’s youth team one year prior in 2004.

But having played for the club just 23 times as a youngster, Pique eventually decided to head home, a decision he probably now doesn’t regret in fairness.

That being said, the club is now in a very different position to the one he left almost 20 years ago, but it’s clear that he’s still keeping an eye on United’s fortunes.

And having now ended his playing days, the Spaniard does seem to have a bit more time to share his wisdom.

Pique recently sat down for an interview with Sky Sports in which he discussed Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United and something the club can improve on.

Gerard Pique unsure if Erik ten Hag can turn Manchester United future around

Speaking in the interview, Pique said that Ten Hag was a very good coach but similarly seemed to think the gig could be up.

He explained: “I still believe Ten Hag is a very good coach. I don’t really know if he will be able to turn things around but the win against Liverpool [in the FA Cup] was incredible.

“It’s the sort of victory that will give them power for the rest of the season. Then, I would say they need to trust more in the people coming through from the academy.”

Of course, Pique may be referring to the fact that Amad Diallo hasn’t had much of a chance this season until his goal against Liverpool.

Perhaps Erik ten Hag would point to Kobbie Mainoo as a glowing example of the academy being trusted, but it seems as though Pique thinks the club could do more.

Alejandro Garnacho is another excellent example of how beneficial it can be to trust young players when things aren’t going too well, fresh faces who can bring a certain fearlessness.

As per Pique’s words, it will be interesting to see how Erik ten Hag does plan to fight for his future at Manchester United.

All that being said, a pundit has now labelled one Man United player a ‘complete failure’.
