Rangers star teams up with Celtic rival as confusion reigns over separate call-up reports

Fabio Silva has certainly taken to life at Rangers but he’ll have to put club allegiances to one side as he links up with a Celtic star on Portugal duties.

The Ibrox loanee, 21, has been called up to the Portugual U21 squad alongside Celtic midfielder Paolo Bernardo, 22, as they continue their U21 Euro qualifying campaign.

In the midst of a title battle, the two players will be lining up on the same team and we wonder if there will be any words spoken about the neck-and-neck battle for silverware this season.

With matches to come v the Faroe Islands (21/03) and Croatia (26/03) perhaps both sets of Old Firm fans will have an eye on Portugal’s progress.

Fabio Silva is on loan at Rangers from Wolves in the Premier League, whilst Paolo Bernardo is on loan at Celtic from Benfica.

Fabio Silva meets Paolo Bernardo with Portugal U21s

Fabio Silva and Paolo Bernardo are not the only two players splitting the Old Firm divide on international duty with Portugal either.

Whilst the Scotland squad is a mixture of Rangers and Celtic fans or even ex-players, in the nation’s current squad John Souttar is the Ibrox side’s only representative.

There are also only two Celtic players in the squad, with full-back duo Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor making Steve Clarke’s cut.

We don’t suspect that there will be any whispers about club football allowed in the Scotland camp and we’re sure everyone is fully focused on securing a place at Euro 2024.

Ridvan Yilmaz Turkey confusion

In an official Rangers update surrounding the eight players who are out on international duty, there has been some confusion surrounding Ridvan Yilmaz.

The post names John Souttar (Scotland), Rabbi Matondo (Wales), Ross McCausland (Northern Ireland), Cyriel Dessers (Nigeria), Fabio Silva (Portugal U21s), and Scotland U21s trio Leon King, Adam Devine & Cole McKinnon as those who’ve been called up in this international break.

But there is no mention of young Turkish full-back Ridvan Yilmaz, who was reportedly called up as an injury replacement by his country this week.

There’s still been no official confirmation of that being the case and until there is, it looks like we should take the claims with a pinch of salt!
