Report: Celtic want to sign ‘exceptional’ Premier League player who just suffered big FA Cup upset

With the season drawing to a close and the league title race closer than ever, Celtic’s challenge has been seriously impacted by injuries and poor business in the transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with some horrendous luck with players being consigned to the treatment table but recruitment, on the other hand, is a different matter entirely.

Celtic have signed too many players who are clearly not good enough for some incredible sums of money.

Gustafe Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki alone cost the guts of over £7m this season. And when you look at the money wasted on the likes of Alexandro Bernabei, better work needs to be done by the recruitment department to get value for money.

And they could be just about to do that. A report from TEAMtalk claims that Celtic are about to make a second attempt at signing Wolves left-back, Hugo Bueno.

Celticmade an unsuccessful attempt to get the 20-year-old on loan in January but now, it seems that Brendan Rodgers is looking to make his move for him in the summer.

Bueno recently suffered an FA Cup heartache when the youngster thought he had sent Wolves into the semi-finals of the FA Cup with an 88th-minute strike to put his side 2-1 up against Coventry.

But two late goals on the 97th and 100th minute sent Wolves crashing out and leaving Bueno heartbroken at the weekend. [BBC]

And as for value for money. Bueno certainly shows that you don’t have go splashing millions of pounds to get quality.

Wolves paid just £3,000 for the ‘exceptional’ young fullback in 2019. Purchased from the Spanish side CD Areosa, Bueno struggling to break into the Wolves side and Celtic see that as the perfect opportunity to offer him first team football next season.
