International manager says everyone at Liverpool is loving what ‘special’ youngster is doing

The last month or so at Liverpool has been a whirlwind for some of the club’s youngsters. So many of them have burst onto the scene it’s hard to keep up with them all. In the space of a few weeks they have announced themselves to the club’s supporters and created indelible memories on the way.

From winning their first major trophy against Chelsea at Wembley, to playing a key role in dismantling Southampton at Anfield, and scoring their first goals in a Liverpool shirt. Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas and Bobby Clark have all made significant contributions in Liverpool’s success recently.

The trio in particular are all really highly regarded and were described as ‘special’ by Jurgen Klopp recently. Unsurprisingly, they’ve all received recognition at international level as well. Danns has been called up to England’s U18 side, where he will face the likes of Netherlands and Germany in the Pinatar Cup in Spain. Clark will line-up for England’s U20 team against Poland and the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Koumas is in action for Wales’s U21 national team, where he will face Lithuania and Morocco during the international break.

Ahead of those matches, Koumas has received high praise from his U21 manager, who revealed he spoke to people at Liverpool about the youngster’s progress and was impressed by what the club had told him.

Wales U21 coach on what Lewis Koumas is doing that everyone is loving at Liverpool

Koumas became the club’s second youngest goal-scorer in the FA Cup when he scored on his first team debut against Southampton. His record was later beaten by Jayden Danns in that match, which means Koumas now officially takes the third spot.

Meanwhile, he ranks in the top ten youngest goal-scorers for Liverpool in all competitions as well in ninth spot, above club legends like Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard. Since that goal Koumas has been regularly training with the first team and has travelled with the squad for Premier League and Europa League games as well.

Meanwhile, at U21 level, he continues to produce the goods, scoring goals and registering assists. Wales considered calling him at to the country’s senior national team, but in the end Koumas was selected for the U21 team instead.

Speaking at the press conference announcing the squad, Wales U21 coach, Matty Jones revealed he had spoken to Liverpool, and that everyone has been loving what Koumas has been doing at the club recently.

“Lewis is a very ambitious young player and there’s no surprise why he’s excelling,” Jones said as per Sportsax.

“The taste he’s had of senior exposure – he’s trained quite regularly with the first-team – has elevated him. They’ve taken a liking to him. Everyone I’ve spoken to at Liverpool loves his self-confidence and his ability to drive at people and run. He’s developing on a daily basis, but the big thing is he can’t wait to come in.”
